Immigration and Customs Enforcement Data4Justice Accelerator

QSIDE is excited to announce this summer we will be offering our 5-week data science online intensive—designed to teach you the technical fundamentals required for data-driven justice research! However, this year will be a little different…

Given the sharp rise in Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across the country, all of our guided and personal research assignments will be focused specifically on analyzing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity and detention data.

Our summer Data4Justice Accelerator will run from June 15th to July 26th. Participants will learn how to:

  • find and collect data using APIs and data scraping;
  • clean and organize data using RStudio & R;
  • use data science methodologies to uncover meaningful insights and relationships in your data;
  • build data stories and effective visualizations to showcase results and inform policy and sway public opinion; and,
  • turn qualitative into quantitative data using Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Each participant will complete a guided research project on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and develop a strong plan for future research on immigration policy, reform, and justice.

No prior technical experience required! Anyone interested in learning how to conduct social justice data science research is welcome; however, space is limited! Access to a working computer and reliable internet is required for the completion of this course.

Participation in the Data4Justice Accelerator is $2500 for general registration or $1250 for currently enrolled students with valid student ID. If you would like to participate in the Data4Justice Accelerator and are in need of financial assistance, please reach out to tyrone.bass@qsideinstitute.org. Full and partial need-based fee waivers are available upon request.

Registration is open now!
