Why Join the Consortium?
Member institutions benefit from regular programming that includes:
- Monthly workshops on topics related to social justice research, including:
- Training webinars on theories/subjects relating to social justice, including Black studies, gender theory, race theory, action research, and a broad range of other topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Training webinars on methods for researchers, instructors, and students on techniques such as data scraping, data curation, visualization, data coding.
- A limited number of free registrations at the annual QSIDE Data4Justice Conference, and member pricing on additional registrations.
- A community of scholars and activists to engage for cross-disciplinary collaboration that powers social justice research-to-action efforts.
- Priority for your students for QSIDE internship positions. While the number of internships varies year-to-year, we anticipate a minimum of between 4-6 internships available each year prioritized for consortium members.
- External funding services. We will locate potential external funders who might support your QSIDE-related work, and we will, if you wish, draft a proposal for you, with you as a PI, and with your input, of course.
- The ability to post job and internship opportunities to our diverse community of data science students and scholars.
- First right of refusal on paid research opportunities QSIDE has access to, like PRACDL and the USC Center for Race/Equity.
- The chance to collaborate with other consortium members at our bi-weekly JUSTFAIR and SToPA Research Labs.
Please note that all events require registration and have attendee limits. All events will be announced to consortium members and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additionally, consortium members who initiate or become active in QSIDE research projects can apply for QSIDE internal micro-grants to request the following resources directly from us:
- Student research funds to support project completion;
- Publishing fees to enable open access publishing for broad accessibility;
- Manuscript drafting and editing to speed dissemination of results;
- Interactive data portal construction to enable visual storytelling for the public; and
- Publicity for completed projects.
